On October 23, 2014, the IRS announced cost of living adjustments affecting dollar limitations for pension plans and other retirement-related items for tax year 2015. Many of the pension plan limitations will change for 2015 because the increase in the cost-of-living index met the statutory thresholds that trigger their adjustment. Effective July 1, 2015, the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation will be changing to a prospective billing system. All Ohio employers should have received two communications from the Bureau that outline some of the new programs. Also sent from the Bureau was a communication regarding the transition credit that will apply to your first half 2015 statements. Historically, BWC has billed Ohio employers in arrears or ‘retrospectively’.

Ohio's minimum wage will increase to $8.10 an hour for non-tipped employees beginning Jan. 1, an increase of 15 cents triggered by inflation. The current rate of $7.95 has been in effect since the beginning of 2014.

Following the passage of the extenders legislation, the Internal Revenue Service announced it anticipates opening the 2015 filing season as scheduled in January. The IRS will begin accepting tax returns electronically on Jan. 20.
